How the world's wealth is spread

Global wealth is not spread thin across the map — it is stacked. A handful of regions — North America, Western Europe, and a few advanced economies of East Asia — hold the majority of the planet's financial and productive assets. The United States and China alone account for a very large share of global net worth; add Japan and the wealthiest European nations and you have most of it.
Measured by people rather than by countries, the picture is sharper still: the richest ~10% of adults own roughly three-quarters of the world's wealth, and the top ~1% own close to half. The bottom half of humanity — some four billion people — together hold only a few percent. This is not a moral accusation; it is simply the terrain we start from, and the terrain any honest vision has to reckon with.

Indian families are estimated to hold on the order of ~25,000 tonnes of gold — the largest private gold holding of any nation on Earth.
